This is such a fun Valentine
craft to do with kids for Valentines Day! It is suitable for kids as
young as 4, and can be as detailed as you want to make it.
Gather together the
following craft supplies:
| |
|
 |
-
Pink or red construction paper
-
Scissors
-
Tissue paper, cut into 1” squares – we used
pink
-
Glue
-
Pencil for each person – unsharpened works
best
-
Paper plate for the glue
|
Cut the
construction paper into the shape of a heart – the easiest way is to
fold it in half and cut half of the heart “on the fold” – meaning that
the center of the heart goes over the fold of the paper.

Put some glue on
the paper plate, and give everyone a stack of the tissue paper squares.
Place
the center of a square of tissue paper over the end of the pencil – if
unsharpened use the lead end, otherwise use the eraser end. Dip the
tissue-covered end in the glue & place it in the center of your heart.
Repeat this until the heart is covered with tissue.
If you want to add
more color, alternate red
and pink squares, or draw a design in the heart (an arrow or the word
“love”) and use a different color in those areas.
When the heart is
covered, gently move it to a place that it can sit undisturbed for a few
hours (or overnight) to dry.
This can be easily
modified to make a fun gift for other holidays too – a flower for
Mother’s Day, a tie or car for Father’s Day, a flag or fireworks for the
4th of July, pumpkins in the fall… you get the idea! Just
change the shape of the paper and the color of the tissue to suit the
theme.
